New York Medical College, which will receive an award for its Corporate Citizenship, is one of six individuals and companies to be honored on Tuesday, April 21, at The Business Council of Westchester’s Hall of Fame Awards at the Glen Island Harbour Club in New Rochelle. Tickets are available through The Business Council of Westchester website.
NYMC, whose chancellor and chief executive officer is Edward C. Halperin, MD, is one of the country’s oldest and largest private health science universities. The school has 800 residents and fellows, and 2,800 faculty members.
It offers graduate-level degree programs for careers in medicine, public health, the biomedical sciences and the health professions.
NYMC is also expected to grow, as it recently joined the state’s START-UP NY program. As part of that, NYMC is designating 11,800 square feet of newly developed research space on campus, including the new biotechnology incubator, BioInc@NYMC, to the program.
A biomedical research leader, NYMC is ideally positioned to supply the critical support infrastructure that biotech and life science companies need to start and grow. The biotech incubator known as BioInc@NYMC will provide clients with access to state-of-the art lab equipment and workforce training suites while fostering collaboration and synergistic relationships between researchers, academics and entrepreneurs.
Halperin joined NYMC in 2012. “New York Medical College has an honorable past and an exciting future,” Dr. Halperin said when he took the job. “The College has a historical commitment to the generation, conservation, and dissemination of knowledge about the causes, prevention, and treatment of human disease and disability. Going forward the College will set high standards for service to society, innovation, and ethical conduct. We intend to offer our students a world-class learning environment.”
Dr. Robert Amler, vice president for government affairs and professor of public health, will accept the award for NYMC at The Business Council of Westchester event.
